Roland’s 303, which was released in 1981, was originally designed as an electronic substitute for the bass guitar. It failed spectacularly to live up to its intended function, but found new life as the machine responsible for the sound of acid house and acid techno. 

This is a great story and lesson in life that just because the original plan failed, doesn't mean you can't pivot and still make something great and remarkable.

Can you believe it? We're just about two weeks away from the one-year mark since the US went into lockdown and all events/festivals put to a complete stop.
 

When it first happened, I told myself

"No problem I got this, I'll practice my patience and ride this one out. After all, how long can they really stop parties and festivals from happening? 3, 6, 9 months? I got this!"
 

As we know now, my early predictions were off and we're most likely not going to see the types of events we're used to attending and throwing (i.e. 100% capacity) until maybe end of this year or early next year? Who really knows as everything is still speculation even if venues and the entire country of the Netherlands announced festivals will return this fall. 
 

The messed up thing about patience is that it can only be used in the present moment, and this is where it trips everybody up and perhaps frustrate those who did apply patience but now hitting a breaking point.
 

This has most certainly been the craziest 11-months of our generation and it's understandable that so many of us are running out of patience. But what choice do we have? Shout at the time for it to speed up?
 

Patience is hard because it's bitter, and especially so when we're in the thick of it but just know at the end of this ride will be a fruit sweeter than you can ever imagine. We all made it this far already, we just need to make it a little farther ahead!
 

As much as I'm getting a little frustrated these days, I know what I need to continue to do. I know I must have faith and I know that it's only a matter of time that we will rave together again!

Hey everyone, we're off to a new start of the year but this post comes at the end of the month. As you know, we're always grinding here at the 6AM camp working hard to serve and inspire the global house & techno community.

Today we launched a new design; this Acid Drip pays homage to the 303-influenced sound that took the House + Techno communities by storm in the late ‘80s and continues to do so today!

This design features graphic art by @_wooozy, a young-aspiring creative artist from the island of Guam best known for his Woozy effect, the melted drips.

With all the news lately about both the vaccine progress and rapid testing kits being available, it's hard for me not to ponder on the thought

"When will the dance floor finally return?"

I know it's not something anyone can answer nor control right now but it sure is exciting to speculate on the sidelines with each day bringing some hope in progress!

Throughout this pandemic, we have enjoyed many live streams from various DJs around the world. The value and principal of these online streams have proven to all of us that the dance floor can truly be anywhere, anytime, even if it's in your living room or kitchen.

As much as we all miss the dance floor, the pandemic has shown us that all we have to do is look down on our own feet and there it is, the dancefloor is right there. It was here all along! You can get up from your seat or wherever you are right now and bust a sick move, we all have a little dancefloor just under our feet.

I don't think it's the dance floor itself that we miss rather it's the friends and deep connections we made on that very dance floor and I truly believe we are moving closer to that reality with each passing day and I seriously cannot wait for that moment, it will be epic.

Have you been feeling a bit unfocused lately? Have communications been off with people? Technology acting up? Plans being delayed and things being misplaced or lost? If any of the above happened to you and you feel like fate is taking over don’t worry, you’re one of the many many people affected by this period called Mercury Retrograde. For those of you who know about it, hang tight while I explain to our friends who may be hearing about it for the first time today.

Three or four times a year, a planet in the solar system, Mercury, is said to go retrograde — that is when it is moving in the opposite direction to planet Earth. The planet Mercury rules communication and all moving things, and it can cause disruption in our everyday flow since humans are always communicating and moving.

The belief that some planet going in the opposite direction can crash our laptop or disrupt our travel plans may sound ridiculous. If we need to find reasons, such as Mercury Retrograde, to justify why losing our car keys for the third time this week is OK, then we really need to talk about the real elephant in the room: FATE.

The truth is that whatever happened to you, it happened because it was meant for YOU.

While I have been an avid believer of Mercury Retrograde for many years (and still do), I realized that one way I have been able to finally combat the unnecessary anxiety of planets spinning out of my control is to accept my own fate, the good and bad that make up the entirety of life, while still focusing on things I can directly control myself.

In the philosophy of Stoicism, we are often reminded of Amor Fati, the Latin term which translates to Love of Fate. Amor Fati serves as a brutal reminder to embrace all that is life, without fighting it. All that is good, all that is bad, all that is enjoyable, and all that is painful. To deliberately make the best of any moment especially in times of trial, when difficult obstacles are thrown at us left, right, and center. Essentially Amor Fati is the practice of loving everything that happens to you, and not just accepting begrudgingly, but fully embracing it, welcoming it by taking full control of your perspective no matter what fate throws at you.

When the laptop crashes in the middle of you working on your project you say: “Great! I love this, now I can go create a better version of my project! Amor Fati, I love it!”

When traffic delays your plans, you say, “Sweet! I can finally take a little break from the busyness of life and maybe catch up on the podcast I’ve been wanting to listen to!”

When you send the wrong email to the wrong people, maybe even embarrassing yourself, you say, “Yes, I am ok with this experience because I can practice humility and learn from this. I am stronger and more thick-skinned because of this.”

Instead of blaming planets and our solar system for messing up our lives, I think a better way to approach all this is to embrace all that is life, all that we are. The good and the bad, the joy and the suffering. That is Amor Fati, Love of Fate.

This mindset is what’s going to crush mercury retrograde and every single retrograde the entire solar system ever throws at you.

P.S. Today we released two new designs in the spirit of Halloween and a touch of Stoicism. The first design, Death by Techno (Amor Fati), is aimed to remind us of the fate we chose in life and to embrace all the good and bad this path in life we chose (through Techno) may throw at us, Amor Fati.

Our second design, Rave to The Grave (Memento Mori), serves to remind us of our own mortality. Only through this constant reminder of our own death, will we find the courage to live the life we truly wish to live, to the fullest.

Today marks the last day of September and, more than 6 months since lockdowns began in the States, this officially brings us to the final quarter of 2020. Alas, the year is trimming away each day, and slowly we are transitioning back into some normalcy with retail stores, barbers, cafes, restaurants and bars slowly re-opening (with outdoor seating options mostly, of course), while traffic (at least in LA) is starting to become awful once more!

While we are slowly heading in the right direction, I cannot help but think that indoor gatherings such as clubs and warehouse events will most likely not return soon and with each weekend passing this naturally brings us all some despair and anxiety. We are right there with you guys!

Despite some people asking us to return and knowing that there are individuals and groups throwing indoor events right now, it's just not something we are willing to risk. Not only is the health risk for our community too great, but throwing events at this moment puts an unnecessary microscope on our scene when that's the last thing that it needs to stay alive. We have to keep the health and survival of our scene top of mind, and think long-term rather than being short-sighted.

So, to the question "Will warehouse parties ever return?" the answer is YES!

When? That we do not know exactly and we do not control.

What we do have control over is our patience. Our approach has been to use whatever means possible to stay connected with our music community, including writing these weekly emails to share our thoughts with you, posting memes on social media, curating music on SoundCloud, writing engaging articles on our website, and releasing new apparel on our Shop, creating designs that link us back to the community and love for electronic music.

It's true, we can't control when the pandemic will spare us from the misery from lack of events, but we do control our perspective and how we react to the situation being given to us. And let me tell you, it feels really good to be less pissed off at things we don't have control of. 

We want to thank every one of you who has been patient with us, all of you who understand that while it is tough for us, it is important to put our events on hold for the good of our community.

I have a really good dad joke for you readers today but before I get to the punch line, I just wanted to take the time to congratulate you for being a super-human.

Hear me out, every one of you reading this right now wear many different hats in life. In a family, you are a son or daughter, mom or dad, brother or sister, a husband or wife. At work, you are a colleague or manager/leader, and have a specific role in your company. In a relationship, you are a boyfriend or girlfriend and within your circle of peers, you are a friend and companion. The level of many hats you wear can be further dissected but you get the picture here.

Many of us juggle multiple hats unknowingly throughout the day, trying to be a good son, a good girlfriend, a hard-working member of a team, a good friend, or a good parent. It can be a lot to juggle, especially when you're trying your best aiming to do good in all areas of the hats that you wear. It's inevitable that we wear these many hats in life, but it's important to be aware of this as well as how to balance them all together.

Through my own repeated failures when wearing many different hats, I can tell you that balancing it all out is easier said than done. I have yet to truly find the ultimate true balance of it (you can say I'm a workaholic) but one thing I am beginning to realize is that you need to be as present as possible for each hat, meaning you cannot wear two hats on one head without wearing them fully, and yet that's what many of us do today... every day.

We're "working" when hanging out with friends or significant others, watching TV while talking to your siblings, or scrolling through your phone when a friend is literally talking right next to you. Actually, that's what I do and I am very much guilty of doing those things. Yet, being aware that it's impossible to wear two hats at the same time is allowing me to take a step back and not be so occupied when I am only supposed to be wearing one hat at a time.

Be focused and be present with who is in front of you. Recognize what hat you should be wearing. There's a time for family, a time for work, a time for leisure, a time for self-care, a time for personal relationships, and a time friendship. When we jumble them all up together it's like wearing multiple hats in real life while walking down the street; we don't do that in real life yet that's exactly what's happening inside our own head. We are constantly juggling all those hats in one go and then wonder why we feel anxious? 

Try being present today and give your attention and care to the one hat you are wearing before putting on another. You just may find some peace and balance by not wearing too many hats at once.

Since 2008, the one thing that gave us the most life and fulfillment was being on that dance floor listening to our favorite acts playing the beats and sound we crave for. Ever since we began our journey, the dancefloor was always our sanctuary from all the worries and troubles of life. For a moment in time, we are able to unite and express ourselves freely which allows us to reflect and aim to do better ourselves so we can all continue to have special moments like these on the dance floor.

Luke Slater was the main headliner for the evening as we were also celebrating the 3-year anniversary of Synthetik Minds. Moments like these make us realize to never take things for granted, the image feels like a distant past on where we are now

The dance floor was truly our heart and soul...it still is but 2020 has been quite difficult to navigate with the Covid. However, as long as we remain hopeful, do what is right, and work towards progress as a community and individuals we are sure to be back on that dancefloor sooner than later.
